Full Lockdown: Maintaining and Enhancing Family Relationship

Never-ending assignments. 24/7 working from home with no work-life balance. Zero time for yourself and family as a couple, parents and siblings.

There’s no secret that prolonged MCO can take a psychological toll on anyone, especially families. Juggling many hats at once, especially parents and students could be overwhelming during these times.

On 8th June, we held a session on ClubHouse, an audio-chat app to take a breather and rearrange our thoughts with our licensed registered counselor, Meng Wai to speak about FMCO: Maintaining and Enhancing Family Relationships.

It was a fruitful session as we spoke about the following:

  1. How does the pandemic, especially the imposed restriction of movement affect family relationships?
  2. Do you believe that the MCO could also make family relationships instead of breaking them? How so?
  3. Working from home, a lot of the time also means working 24/7 for some, and this event could lead to a strain on a relationship. How do you advise proper time management for those working from home to also spare quality time with family?
  4. It’s been around 2 years to have online classes for university students. How can we make parents more understanding of the never-ending assignments and what can be done by uni students to alleviate stress?

The room was opened for the audience to tune in and chime in to create an interactive discussion too.
